Chiropractic and Extremities

When thinking of a chiropractic treatment, most people’s first thought would be adjustments to the back and pelvis, to help with back pain. However, chiropractors can evaluate and treat different parts of the body. That’s what “extremities” stand for: the joints in our limbs!

Our team at Renovo Health & Wellness is trained to address symptoms in every joint of the body, including shoulders, elbows, wrists, hands, hips, knees, ankles, feet and TMJ.

The same mechanisms that make chiropractic adjustments a safe, effective and natural treatment for the spine, applies to manipulation directed to any joint. A “joint” or articulation is a juncture between two bones or cartilages, anywhere in our body. These junctures are rich in nerve endings, which help the brain understand the position of the joint in order to control the muscles surrounding it to stabilize and prevent injury.

Manipulating these joints can help “reset” these nerves, which can promote muscle relaxation, improved range of motion, decreased pain and improved biomechanics.

Just like the spine, extremities can be adjusted in multiple different ways: a chiropractor can use fast stretch-adjustments, slow, gentle mobilizations or instruments like the Activator or Arthrostim. Depending on patient presentation and patient preference, our team at Renovo Health & Wellness is trained to apply different style of adjustments to help manage symptoms in our patients’ extremities.
